It Takes a Caring Community focuses on the individuals and programs that have a positive effect on mental health and the overall community. A strong network of support is essential to help those who are suffering from mental or emotional pain. A supportive community can shine a light into the darkness of isolation and dispel the stigma of mental illness. This year we are celebrating the Caring Community that sustains us all.
W?e are honored to host Sergeant Kevin Briggs as our keynote speaker. Retired California Highway Patrol officer, Sgt. Briggs encountered numerous individuals clinging to life by a thread – individuals who had lost hope and could see no way out of their current situation – ready to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge to what they assumed was a sudden death that would end their pain and hopelessness. Through his compassion, gentle voice, eye contact, and innate ability to “listen to understand” Briggs encouraged more than 200 individuals to step back from the precipis and start a new chapter in their lives, earning him the nickname “Guardian of the Golden Gate Bridge.” Sgt. Briggs will use his own experiences to help the audience learn to help others.
Singer Songwriter who is an advocate against the stigma of mental illness, will sing for us.
Sportscaster for the Philadelphia 76er's will moderate the event. |
